FOXBORO - The money's important to Asante Samuel, and he wasn't misleading anyone yesterday to think otherwise.

But with the ink still drying on a one-year contract, the team's star left cornerback said his motivation to succeed doesn't begin and end with the arrival of each game check.

"I'm a competitor," Samuel said yesterday. "I've been a competitor since I was born. Everything I do, I want to be the best at. I want to leave a legacy. I want `Asante Samuel' to be set in stone when I leave this game."
