Inmarsat has created a quasi-commercial affiliate which will handle the development, operation and marketing of the Inmarsat-P personal communications system. The still-unnamed affiliate is expected to concentrate its marketing efforts on users of cellular telephones, rather than on communications specialists. Company officials assure potential clients that the system will be eavesdropper-proof and will be compatible with GSM and any other digital cellular telephony standards.
