South African aerospace companies are uncertain about the future of their business as political, economic and social upheavals continue to envelop their country. Twenty years of isolation has enabled the industry to emerge as one of the best in the world in terms of technology and the lifting of the UN arms embargo on South Africa promises to enhance the industry's export prospects. However, the aerospace sector faces tough competition from their European, US and Russian counterparts. In addition, government support for the industry may take a backseat to more pressing socio-economic problems.
