Aug. 21--In 1961, Roanoke dignitaries, architects and excited students toured the city's newest and most modern high school: Patrick Henry.
A new generation of dignitaries, architects and students was back at Patrick Henry High School on Monday to reopen the school, again hailing it as the city's newest and most modern.
Construction on the new school started in 2004. The first phase of the building opened in 2006. But, as architect Richard Rife noted, the school's inception goes back much further.
