Thales of the Pre-Socratics 
 
   1. 
 
   Thales was an early rabbit, who told 
   that EVERYTHING, when you chewed, squashed, 
   or pounded it, 
   broke down 
   to water. 
 
   Peter has already drafted this entry 
   (& a few others) 
   tentatively 
 
   for his History of Philosophers, 
 
   before he discovers 
   there is no mention 
   in any of the extant texts, 
   by "early philosophers", 
   who were later 
   than Thales, 
   that Thales was a rabbit. 
 
   It seems, he writes, no texts by Thales survive. 
   Then pauses, re-reading some 
   of his later entries ...
