A NEW STUDY has hinted that older men and women who suffer from cataracts or age-related macular degeneration (AMD) face an increased risk of early death compared to older people without these conditions.

However, researchers at Australia's University of Sydney are unsure of whether the vision loss occurs as a result of the ageing process or if the conditions of the disease increase an individual's mortality rate.
