Personal shields.(art lesson based on Native American symbols)

High school art students enjoyed making decorative shields based on individual interpretations of Native American arts and symbols. Pursuant to the project, each young artist wrote brief texts to accompany their shields, in which the artists describe the meanings of the shield symbols.

Our school is making a push to encourage all students to write more in every course. An introductory project relating Native-American art and symbolism with writing helped my students to improve their writing skills while stimulating their art historical imaginations.
