Aug. 6--KUNKLETOWN -- In a quiet corner of Monroe County, two forces are battling over 300 acres of wilderness abutting the Appalachian Trail.

For six years, developer Richard W. Muller Jr. has pursued plans to build a private motor sports track in Eldred Township -- sort of a country club for racing enthusiasts -- on sprawling woodlands.
