Kenn Ketter raced his first canoe at age 8. His father, Karl, once paddled the Mississippi from here to Louisiana, and Kenn's parents started the Minnesota Canoe Association along with other canoe racers in 1961.

Ketter Canoeing, which Karl and Betty Ketter founded in the 1960s and which Kenn now runs with his wife, Beth Sikkema, has been on the banks of the Mississippi in Brooklyn Park since before the city was incorporated as such.

So Kenn's big, heavily built upper body comes to him naturally, a byproduct of digging into water ...
