A word of warning to any ducks intending to over fly French soil any time soon.

Making an unforced landing, especially in France's Perigord region that contains the Dordogne in the south-west of the country, can be positively injurious to their health.

As things stand, our feathered friends could console themselves that, should the worst occur, they will be contributing to a process whose roots can be traced back to 2500BC. That's serious history.

And the process? The production of foie gras, that French delicacy that requires the gruesome act known as the "gavage", ...
