Ascension Day is not a public holiday, but some schools still choose to close.

At 8.45am yesterday the school bell rang at La Montagne Primary School for change of classes, but instead of the usual hustle and bustle, silence hung over the school.

A parent who did not want to be named said he received a school notice on Wednesday informing parents that the school would be closed for Ascension Day.
