Xstrata named as bidder for Eland.(Business Report)

Johannesburg - Xstrata and Eland Platinum were locked in talks that might see the large diversified mining group acquiring the junior platinum company, a source close to the deal told Business Report last week.

Xstrata was likely to pay R8.5 billion plus a premium in cash if it agreed to buy Eland, an analyst said. Xstrata had cash on hand of $1.7 billion (R12.3 billion) at the end of December.
