Challenging the city, Eugene's gas station owners on Friday officially demanded that a repeal of the city's latest gas tax increase be placed on the November ballot.

The dispute centers on how the city is calculating whether the station owners gathered enough valid signatures on their gas tax petitions to qualify the measure for the ballot.

City Recorder Mary Feldman on Thursday said the referendum failed to qualify for the ballot because station owners failed to collect at least 6,365 valid signatures.
