A change in how the secretary of the Department of Natural Resources is appointed is still on the legislature's back burner.
The 2007-09 legislature has two bills that would change the current system and return to Wisconsin's long-standing tradition of having a citizen commission or board appoint the secretary of the DNR.
Senate Bill 15, which was co-sponsored by 21 legislators, is short and to the point. It would, as of Jan. 3, 2011, require the Natural Resources Board to appoint the DNR secretary. The board is a ...
