Food prices may well emerge as the new bogeyman for inflation in the UK - contending with freak weather conditions and changing global demand patterns for agricultural products.
While Consumer Price Index inflation and retail sales figures for June showed slowing demand and prices for foodstuffs, analysts warn that in the longer term, food prices will have a major impact on whether the Bank of England can pull inflation back down to the two per cent target rate.
