CAMILO MEJIA WAS BORN IN 1975, the son of prominent Sandinista revolutionaries. He grew up in Nicaragua and Costa Rica before moving to the United States with his family in 1994. In 1995 he was working full-time at minimum wage to pay for his college education when he was approached by a U.S. Army recruitment team. He joined the military at age 19.
