The EU's Consumer Protection Commissioner Meglena Kuneva delivered a firm message to the Chinese authorities responsible for the safety of food and goods during her first visit to Beijing, which will last from July 22 to July 26. Her two messages were that there can be no compromise on safety: "This is about European values, this is about high standards, this is about what people expect from the European Union", and that secondly, "We believe in open markets and fair competition".
