SOUTH Africa has no intention of phasing out the controversial use of DDT for malaria control, in spite of studies that have linked DDT to low sperm counts in young men in areas where the pesticide is used.

And although the Stockholm Convention was signed in 2001 to oversee the phasing out of persistent organic pollutants, including DDT, its use appears to have doubled since then, according to an article in Pesticide News.
