The railway tracks still stand in the heart of Groutville, near Kwa-Dukuza, nestled by lush green hills and the now dusty Umvoti River. It is here that the life of Inkosi Albert Luthuli is said to have ended.

His ill health, failing hearing and eyesight are said to have been the cause of his not hearing an oncoming train while walking on the trestle bridge over the Umvoti River near his spaza shop on July 21, 1967.
