Jul. 12--Kitt Peak Observatory will reopen to the public at 9 a.m. Sunday, an official said.
The peak was closed as firefighers battled the Alambre Fire, which started Saturday in the Baboquivari Mountains about 45 miles southwest of Tucson and has burned 7,267 acres.
The blaze, which is expected to be contained by Saturday night, burned close to the observatory, but its telescopes were never in great danger, officials said.
The peak will be opened for scientific observation Friday night, said observatory spokesman Doug Isbell.
