The European Commission has updated existing guidelines for coal and steel research. A draft decision submitted to the Council of Ministers on 9 July (after consultation of the EP) provides for simplification of certain administrative procedures for the grant of aid under the Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS).

Upon the expiry of the Treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), all the ECSC's assets were transferred to the European Community. The earnings on the assets are earmarked exclusively for research in this field, conducted ...
