Arts boost Valley's economy: From jobs to tax revenue to meals, cultural activities mean big bucks, study finds.

Jul. 4--Arts and cultural organizations pump $169.1 million into the Lehigh Valley economy, according to a national report by an arts advocacy group.

Nonprofit arts organizations provided the equivalent of 6,216 full-time jobs in the Valley in 2005 and provided $6.8 million in local taxes and $11.1 million in state taxes, according to the report by Americans for the Arts. Attendees of local cultural events and venues spent $26.56 on average on meals, transportation and lodging on top of the cost of admission.
