Abstract: There are precious and historic unreinforced masonry buildings in many countries located in high-risk seismic zones that are prone to serious damage as a consequence of earthquakes. It is not viable to strengthen simultaneously all historic buildings under threat; as a consequence, there is a need for exact planning. One of the essential requirements in making decisions concerning protecting a building is to improve knowledge of the damage that earthquakes of various intensities would cause, as well as possible strengthening methods to avoid such damage.
