When Bert Brown was elected to the Senate for a second time, in 2004, few thought the Kathryn, Alta., farmer and businessman stood much of a chance of being appointed to the upper house. That changed on April 18, when Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced he was selecting Brown to represent Alberta in Ottawa, after Liberal Dan Hays announced he was retiring in June. The Western Standard's Cyril Doll caught up with Brown at his home in Kathyrn.
