Entomologists looking for ways to control corn ear worm pests are using wasps to search for the worm pupae in the soil under corn plants. Three types of parasitic wasps have been found to be efficient in searching for the burrows made by pupal insect pests that regularly plague corn crops. Similarly, skunks are also being made to use their sense of smell for searching for ear worm pupae.
