The rejection of Isamu Noguchi's Hiroshima cenotaph: a Japanese American artist in occupied Japan.

Japanese American sculptor Isamu Noguchi designed a cenotaph to the victims of the atomic bomb at Hiroshima during World War II. His cenotaph incorporated elements of both the East and West. Its design included elements of Japanese prehistoric culture such as fertility goddesses and other figures from pottery models as well as modern ideas derived from the psychologist Jung and surrealism. Unfortunately, his design was rejected not because of aesthetic reasons but for political reasons. His being a part American was considered a liability.
