Maria Anna (1738-1789). (Archduchess of Austria) (The History of Mineral Collecting: 1530-1799)

Maria Anna was the daughter of Franz Stefan and Maria Theresa from whom she inherited an interest in mineralogy. As a member of Vienna's Royal Imperial Family, she studied numismatics and mineralogy and later amassed her own collection under the guidance of Ignaz von Born. After her brother Joseph expelled them from court, she became a Prioress of a convent in Klagenfurt. Thereafter, her collection was seized and sold to the University of Buda. It is now preserved at the Eotvos Lorand University museum in Budapest, Hungary.
