This paper explores community constructs of infertility and how these constructs influence social support offered involuntarily childless couples. Social constructs observed include that motherhood is biologically based and fatherhood is learned; infertility is caused by psychological factors or male sexual dysfunction; and infertility is a medically constructed problem requiring diagnosis and treatment.
