Boccaccio's 'Decameron' and de Ferrieres's 'Songe de Pestilence.' (Giovanni Bocaccio, Henri de Ferrieres)

The introduction to Giovanni Boccaccio's 'Decameron' describes fully the 1348 plague in Florence, Italy. However, the subsequent narratives do not include this historical event. The theory is forwarded that the planetary influences which Boccaccio refers to is significant of the absence of physical illness in the subsequent stories. As in Henri de Ferrieres' 'Le songe de pestilence,' the plague is interpreted vis-a-vis corruption and perversion of Church and state.
