Feb. 12--Babe Ruth is still hitting home runs for Madison Avenue. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Bambino's birth, corporate America is merchandising the Babe as never before - with a slew of commemorative products and ad campaigns pitching everything from Genoa Salami to Chevrolet.
"Babe Ruth is one of those long-lasting heroes who everyone loves," said Beth Vahle, vice president of Curtis Management Group, the Indianapolis-based company which is licensing the Babe.
