Ryan Newman has a knack for putting his car on the pole in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series.
He's done it the last three weeks, including last weekend at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, where he finished second behind Jeff Gordon in the rain-shortened Pocono 500.
Winning a pole does have its advantages. Starting up front is always a good thing, especially in avoiding any kind of melee that might occur in the early going. A driver starting from the pole is also more than likely to earn five bonus points for leading a lap and has a leg up on ...
