ALTHOUGH life-saving anti-lock brakes are now mandatory on all new cars, optional electronic stability control is being snubbed by UK motorists.

Research reveals that British buyers are almost at the bottom of the league table for choosing to fit the life-saving technology.

The European Commission is looking to make ESC mandatory on all new cars by 2012.
