Introduction
In a separate paper (see this issue) the authors discussed non-surgical aspects of the neurologically impaired hand as frequently seen in people affected by leprosy neuropathy. These aspects included applied anatomy, terminology and assessment. An adequate understanding of the neurologically impaired hand, and its primary and secondary impairments, is necessary to be able to judge how specific surgical interventions may affect the functioning of the hand.
