Abdelkebir Khatibi, Abdellatif Laabi, and Tahar Ben Jelloun (Prix Goncourt, 1987) helped found the magazine Souffles in 1966. Souffles was a focal element in Moroccan literature written in French and was instrumental in raising Moroccan literature to its own unique status within Maghrebian literature.
