Fast-growing San Marcos climbs above 80,000 people.

Jun. 8--SAN MARCOS ---- The population of San Diego County's fastest-growing city climbed past 80,000 for the first time this spring, according to figures recently released by the state, but San Marcos officials said it will probably be many years before the city hits 100,000 people.
City officials said a two-decade growth spurt in San Marcos is essentially over, because the amount of vacant land in the city for new housing developments has become quite scarce.
