PANAMA CANAL _ Looking back over three decades, veteran shipping agent James McMurray says he can't remember the last time so much cargo had to wait for passage through the Panama Canal.
``We've had a couple of backlogs, but never like this. This has been the mother of all backlogs,'' said McMurray, who has been on the canal since 1966.
A severe bottleneck reached its peak in mid-January and is still clogging the canal, disrupting world commerce, angering shipowners and raising questions _ perhaps unfairly _ about the operation of the vital waterway.
