The War Diaries of Weary Dunlop were published in 1986; but this is the first attempt to capture the whole man w or superman, which his commanding height and phenomenal physique conveyed. Never did the cliche -- they don't make them like that nowadays -- apply better than to this backwoods boy from Victoria -- the first born Victorian to play rugger for Australia -- a game which held an almost mystical appeal for Weary. Nor did his nickname, a simple schoolboy transference from Dunlop, turn out so unsuitable for this indefatigable man.
