Sir Richard Knowles, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham in 1994/5 and former leader of the council, celebrated his 90th birthday at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
A feature of the celebrations was a visit by Plaxtol Scholars, a choir renowned for church and classical music from the village of Plaxtolin, Kent, where Sir Richard was baptized, married and served as a church warden at is parish church, following in the footsteps of his forefathers since the 19th century.
