Decoration Day helps families 'reconnect'.

May 28--Across the South this month, families in rural communities carried covered dishes and armloads of flowers to cemeteries and church fellowship halls for traditional Decoration Day observances.

The long-held custom of decorating family graves and sharing a meal each year is waning as cultures change and less of the South truly is rural, according to historians. But the annual event for some is still an important observance.
