Charles X held the French throne only for six years but the period has become known for the extremely fine furniture produced then. The Charles X style was actually the culmination of a long-gathering movement away from the bland and simple furniture of the Directoire period. When the Bourbon monarchy was restored in 1815, designers again began to favor luxurious trappings and this continued even after 1830. Today, Charles X furniture is extremely rare and can be found only in a few dealers.
