Alberto Ginastera is recognized as one of the leading musical spokesmen of the Americas. Born in 1916, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he first came to public attention in 1937, with the auspicious premiere of his ballet suite, Panambi During his formative creative years, Ginastera pursued a course of folkloric nationalism. He modeled his earliest compositions on the works of previous generations of Argentine composers as well as on the international styles of Bartok, Stravinsky, Debussy, Copland, and Honegger.
