WESTLAKE VILLAGE -- Playing like a team with nothing to lose, wild-card entry Lancaster High gave top-seeded Oaks Christian a scare Friday in the first round of the Southern Secton Div. III softball playoffs.

The visiting Eagles (17-11) jumped to a two-run lead and chased sophomore right-hander Jenna Foster with five runs in the second inning.

But ace Taylor Schlopy restored order, pitching 51/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out 10 while patiently waiting out a 9-5 victory.
