Pakistan Sugar Industry started very small in 1947-48 when there were only two sugar mills in the country. Sugar production stood at 10,000 metric tons at the time of independence. Eversince the industry has not looked back. We have continuously expanding capacity and increasing production. In 1992-93 we achieved self-sufficiency in sugar requirement by producing 2.4 million tons of sugar. In 1993-94 sugar production reached a record high of 2.92 million tons.
