May 13--One day, it could be possible to live in Lexington and work in Winder without owning a car.

A regional system of trains, buses and vans is years away, but Athens-Clarke officials are beginning to discuss it as a way to ease traffic across Northeast Georgia and, more importantly, help reduce the county's staggering 28 percent poverty rate.

"We recognize the need for it for people to get back and forth from work or to reduce congestion," Athens-Clarke Mayor Heidi Davison said. "I think now is the time to start talking about ...
