A major 19th-century painting, long displayed at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, has been removed from the American collection, returned to an anonymous donor and sold to a private collector.
Albert Bierstadt's "Mountain View, Sunset" had been part of the museum's American paintings exhibit since 1969, when it was received as a long-term loan from an unidentified family.
