Ultrasound images can be transmitted over a low-bandwidth Internet network and assessed by technologists at a distant location, according to a report in the March issue of the American Journal of Roentgenology. Researchers said the findings suggest that trained paramedical personnel or nurses at remote Third World locations could perform diagnostic-quality ultrasound while a technologist anywhere in the world simultaneously assesses the diagnostic or screening ultrasound images.
