Apr. 30--For a bunch of high school kids who can tell you what an osmoregulating crab is, the contestants at the National Ocean Sciences Bowl at Stony Brook University appear to be like any other teens.

Tyler Bodine-Smith, 16, a sophomore whose team is from Aurora, Colo., has frizzy hair that makes him look like a young Art Garfunkel, but he talks like a seasoned academic bowl champion. He joined his school's ocean sciences bowl team, he said, because it was harder than the "regular science bowl."
