Apr. 27--Victoria's new police chief is a 47-year-old firefighter and police officer who likes to ride motorcycles and enjoys quiet time on the beaches in Mexico and in the Texas Hill Country when he's not working. "I'm very much a family-oriented person," said Bruce Ure, who was named Thursday as the new chief.

"Our officers know that their families, their family lives and values are absolutely paramount to me," he said. "My folks know that family is No. 1."
