Thirty-one years after being adopted by a family in Chevy Chase, Maryland, acclaimed novelist A.M. Homes was confronted by the ground-shifting news that her birth parents were looking for her. In her new memoir, The Mistress's Daughter (Viking), the writer tells the riveting, heartbreaking, and at times hilarious story of meeting her birth parents and uncovering their shared past, while also exploring the issue of adoption and the meaning of family and identity.
