Jiangxi Copper reports net profit up 148 pct last year

Shanghai. April 20. INTERFAX-CHINA - Jiangxi Copper Co. Ltd., the Shanghai and Hong Kong-listed copper smelter and subsidiary of the Jiangxi Copper Group, which is the second largest copper smelter in the country, announced yesterday that its net profit for 2006 hit RMB 4.61 billion ($597.16 million), up 148.97 percent from 2005.

Jiangxi Copper attributed the net profit increase to the high copper prices seen last year. Copper prices surged to $8,790 per ton in mid-May, up from $4,440 per ton at the ...
